    Is there a compatibility fix in the Application Compantibility Toolkit that will allow an old program that requires 8.3 short file names to run on a Windows 7 build where the 8.3 short file name support is not enabled?

    Hi,

     

    Based on my knowledge, I don’t a way to allow 8.3 short file name through ACT. But you could enable it in Windows 7.

     

    Here is how you enable the 8.3 file name:

    a. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
    b. Locate the NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation value under the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem

    c. Double click on NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation. Type 0 for value data and then clickOK.
    d. Quit Registry Editor.
    e. Restart the computer.
