How to disable hardware acceleration for sound RRS feed

  • Question

  • In XP there was an option within dxdiag to completely disable hardware acceleration and instead use a software mixer.  How is this implemented now?

  • In control panel, go to appearance and personalization, then display, then screen resolution, then click advanced settings, Click the Troubleshoot tab, and then click Change settings. Adjust to suit your liking!

  • Actually, that's how to disable video hardware acceleration.  There is no way to disable hardware acceleration on audio since windows XP.  Since Vista, sound has been handled differently and more closely, so there is unfortunately no way I know of to disable it in Vista or Windows 7.
