DirectAccess 2012 on a virtual machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I need to setup 2 DA servers in a load balanced configuration with an F5 to accomodate 500 users. I'm reluctant to set this up on a virtual machine and just wanted to get the forum's opinion on running DA on a 2012 VM in a production environment?

    Thanks

  • Hi - not really - as long as the virtual networks for Hyper-V / VMware are set ok (such as Multicast / Unicast / MAC Address spoofing) both within the hypervisors and switch level (where required) all works as expected.

  • Hi There - i have done numerous installs of DA using Virtual Machines from VMware to Hyper-V - performance is good, installs are no different and the scale out is easier using Virtual than Physical. Just a personal preference and comes down to the individual organisations and how they view things.

  • Hi John,

Ok, so you don't have any additional networking issues caused by virtual networking? Virtual machines would certainly simplify the setup.
