Server 2003 as a NAP client? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

before Windows Server 2008 was RTM I read in several articles that a NAP client for Server 2003 will be available via Windows update. However, I cannot find any. Is there a chance to configure a Windows Server 2003 as a NAP client? What about Server 2003 R2?

    Thank you for your help!

  • No. The NAP client is available for Windows XP as part of Service Pack 3 and comes as part of Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2008 R2. The NAP client is not available on Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2003 R2.

  • Additional to the answer above, technically there is no nap client for 2008 or 2008 r2. There is a nap service but no SHA for either OS.

All that can be done is hard set the auto enrollment policy so that the servers get a health cert and ipsec policy. Only client OSs can do health checks and remediation steps.
