Exporting to Excel RRS feed

  • Question

  • When exporting to Excel everything comes out as text, is there any way to get numbers, dates, %ages etc in their native format?

I know it is easy to convert them back in Excel, but it is still a pain

  • Graham,

If you are using the export wizard, then no, everything transfers over as text. And using the export wizard, you will also find that text fields, particularly the Notes field will be truncated at 255 characters or the first line feed, whichever occurs first.

In my opinion the best way to export Project data to Excel is through VBA. You might want to take a look at the following Wiki article. It is primarily designed to address the truncated notes text issue but the VBA code in the article can be expanded to cover any Project data.

  • Saving as XML will also preserve formatting but you'll need to sift through the export to find the specific data you are looking for.
