DPM Agent is unavailable RRS feed

  • Question

  • I cannot get the agent on a protected client (desktop) available.
This happened after a clean install of windows 10.
I suspect it has something to do with DCOM on the client, but cannot figure out what is the problem.
I have turned off the firewall on both DPM and desktop.
Other protected machines (servers) are all ok.

EDIT: Forgot to say that the client is Windows 10 Enterprise x64 Anniversary (version 1607) (!!)

Error message shown on the Management/Agents:

  • Hi !

See same questions Windows 10 Anniversary Update Breaks the DPM Client

Use this instruction - DPM Agent Network Troubleshooting

Also install UR7 for DPM 2012 R2 or higher

"Support for the Windows 10 Client operating system

After you install this update, you can start to protect data on Windows 10 Client computers. There is no change in the user experience or in the scenarios that are supported. Therefore, you can continue to back up Windows 10 clients by using DPM exactly like you protected previous Windows Client versions."

Check and add DPM server to local groups:

    • Distributed COM Users
    • DPMRADCOMTrustedMachines
    • DPMRADmTrustedMachines

  • UR10 is installed.
Troubleshooting performed, all ok except for ports 5718/5719, but it doesn't matter because the firewall is off (both protected machine and dpm server and other protected machine working ok without these ports open, however they are not w10 1607, rather server 2012R2 etc.).
Traffic between DPM server and protected machine when I try to install agent from dpm console (using Message Analyzer  to see).
Tried manually installing agent with dpm server as argument.
Tried with a laptop just updated to w10 1607, same problem.

    Nothing seems to help.
It seems to be a problem introduced by w10 1607.

Troubleshooting using wbemtest indicates DCOM is ok both ways, however DPM server has event id 10006 every time I try to install agent:
DCOM got error "2147943453" from the computer <name of protected machine> when attempting to activate the server:
    {DA6AA17A-D61C-4E9C-8CEA-DB25DEA52A95}

    What next ?

Is really w10 1607 supported at all ?

    EDIT:
Just tried manual install agent and cannot manually start DPMRA (or DPM Client Service), error = 1053
    I have no idea why.

  • How could I ignore the sisbkup.dll hint, it seems to have solved the problem entirely !!
