Files and Settings Transfer Wizard RRS feed

  • Question

  • Working with HP, I purchased a pocket media drive and used a techs suggestion to back up my files and setting using the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard before doing a complete system restore.  Unfortunately I have not been able to restore the files.  The folder that was created on the pocket drive is titled USMT2.UNC.  Four files wer created within the folder IMG00001, IMG0002, IMG0003 and status.  Any help in retrieving these files would be greatly appreciated.  I have a Windows XP operating system, the Home Media Version.

  • I ran Files and Settings Transfer Wizard under Windows XP Home Ed. SP3 and saved files to an external USB  hard drive.  It created a 52,421,569 KB file called USMT2IMG.DAT.  I reinstalled Windows and tried restore my files.  I get a Files and Settings Transfer Wizard dialog box that says, "The location that you specified does not contain stored information.  Please type a valid folder path into the edit box.  If you entered a path to a folder on a removable disk, the disk must be in the drive."  I have also tried using Windows XP professional with SP3, which didn't work.  I then tried a fresh install of XP Prof SP2, same error.  I tried XP Prof. SP1; still didn't work.  My sister will not be happy with losing her music, videos, word documents, and medical and tax information.  Help!
