DPM 2010 Secondary Server Rentention Schedule/Size RRS feed

  • Question

  • What I am trying to do is create a secondary DPM server that will hold the data from the primary DPM server longer on disk. We currently keep 30 days of backups locally and I would like the offsite system to keep the data for months to a year if possible.

My question is how is the data "kept" on the secondary DPM server? If I max out the time to over 400 days it will do weekly backups of fileshares and less time for items that are databases such as SQL and Exchange. When I create these protection groups, and I am creating a separate group for each server, it says that it will need over 60TB of storage when now with 30 days we only use 2.1TB of storage.

We have a lot of historical data, and our rate of change is not that big, so I wanted to know if DPM is just estimating the size required based on the size of the live data. Plus, are the backups on the secondary just differential backups or are they full copies each time?

    Thank you!
