Edge Browser and pass through authentication RRS feed

  • Question

  • Where is the pass through authentication option within Edge Browser? In previous versions of IE, there was the concept of security zones. Which allowed specific sites within a corporate network to be added to the trusted sites or local intranet list, permitting different security settings for those sites. One very important option was the "automatic logon with current username and password" feature. This allows corporate sites to auto login based off the domain login and password.

Chrome and firefox both have this feature of ntlm pass through. EDGE Browser appears to not have it.

This is a massive over sight, how do they expect corporations to move to windows 10 and edge, when basic functionality like this is simply overlooked?

The fact that I have to come and point this out is shockingly bad. In fact i think MS don't even use their own products within their own business. Because if they did, they would know that edge does not work with ntlm pass through and would have resolved it themselves before release.

  • Hi ,

This seems to be not available in Microsoft Edge currently. Based on known information, Microsoft Edge doesn't work with Windows Integrated Authentication. We may consider using Internet Explorer 11 instead.

Windows 10 has the built-in feedback tool available, and we may also submit feedback directly through Microsoft Edge. We sincerely appreciate your taking time to provide your feedback and thank you for the collected data.

I work as a network engineer supporting 80,000 computers in Health Care that all use intranet zone logon protection and require Domain pass-through authentication for the browser in the INTRANET zone. IE is currently being used but NO ONE in a properly secured business environment can upgrade to Edge until this is added.  You cannot have private websites NOT password protected and you cannot have users caching their passwords in Windows Edge password store because then their accounts get locked out when the password gets updated on the domain.

Saying it is not supported is just not acceptable because NTLM is a Microsoft Domain service and should have the ability to interact with its own built in browser. If IE 11 can do it, Edge should be able to as well.

  • This information is incorrect. I am able to use Kerberos authentication (verified in the headers) on our intranet on Chrome, IE11, and Edge.

However, it appears that if you have both Digest and Windows Authentication enabled, Edge chooses poorly, because I seem to always get the credential prompt. Chrome chooses wisely.

  • That is why we use Chrome instead of Edge!

If Microsoft is offering Edge as a product, please first finish to develop it !!

Remembering the NTLM protocol is Microsoft property too... and not compatible with Edge, that`s ridiculous!
