Dynamic registration to different DNS server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a split domain where my workstations are members of the abc.com domain but are pointing to my other domain def.com for DNS. There is a trust between the 2 domains but we do not transfer zones. Is there a way to have the workstations dynamically register DNS records in abc.com DNS forward lookup zone?

    Thanks.

  • If you do conditional forwarding then it should be fine. A client will identify the authoritative server for its domain then will contact it for dynamic DNS registration. I have documented that here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/21984.how-to-secure-dns-updates-on-microsoft-dns-servers.aspx

  • You are right. And using your answer I tracked down an issue on the other domain's DNS system. Thanks for your help.

  • How do you think I can get the abc.com workstations to register dynamic DNS in def.com dns forward lookup zone? Is there a setting in the DHCP scope I can set?
