Multiple Protection Groups for the same volume RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are currently using DPM 2007 to back-up a Windows NAS device on our network.  We use this NAS as a centralized spot to store nightly SQL back-ups from our database servers as well as repository for data we wish to hold near line.  All of this data exists on the D: volume on the NAS and we currently back-up the entire volume.

As the data has grown, our needs to back up everything on the volume has diminished and we would like to set-up multiple protections groups for the various different types of data on the device.  From what I am seeing this is not possible?

We would like to create 2-3 PG’s for our SQL back-ups and then another 1-2 PG’s for our near line data with different synchronization priorities.  Is this possible?

  • Hi Brian,

DPM can only associate one protection group per datasource. If you protect your D drive you can't create another protection group that should protect D:\SQL (for example).
