  • Dear all,

Please share me clarifications on below requirements.

If SQL server running as a Virtual Machine with SQL Enterprise [Core bases] -  This license depends on physical core or Virtual core.

    1. If SQL server with Enterprise License, CAL license need to purchase or not required [is default unlimited CAL].
    2. SQL Enterprise License, minimum how many CORE license we have to buy?
    3. If Windows Datacenter OS running as a Virtual machine, license depends on physical core or virtual core.
    4. If Windows OS is Datacenter License, CAL license need to purchase or not required [is default unlimited CAL].
    5. Is single Datacenter License can support unlimited VMs or any limitation.
    6. Windows OS datacenter License, minimum how many CORE license we have to buy?

     Kindly give me confirmation.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi,

SQL serv Enterp is licensed ONLY with Core licenses without CALs for unlimited users/Devices access.

if you install your SQL Server on a virtual machine, than you need to license only the Cores in the VM(Minimum 4 cores= 2 X SQL serv Enterp 2core license). it means that each SQL Server SKU license covers up to 2 cores.

for wind serv Datacenter 2016,  All physical cores on the server must be licensed, subject to a minimum of 8 core licenses per physical processor and a minimum of 16 core licenses per Server.

The Windows Server 2016 licensing model includes both Cores + Client Access Licenses (CALs). Each user and/or device accessing a licensed Windows Server Datacenter edition requires a Windows Server CAL.

    thanks
