Updating percentage complete within PWA RRS feed

  • Question

  • I’m playing around with the task update features in PWA.  I clicked on My Task to find all assigned tasks.  I picked one and assigned progress=50% and submitted.  I have myself set as the default approver.  So I go to Approvals->Task Updates and I see it’s pending approval.  I select and click the approval button.  It shows me a preview of how it’s going to change my project stats.  I click ok.  When I go back to project center and select that project, I expect to see these updates reflected but they’re not.  It’s not showing any work on the project/task.  I have setup the timesheet feature, so I tried going in, adding a task line item and putting in actual hours worked and submitted the timesheet.  However, again, when I go back to the Project->Project center and select the project, it’s not reflecting my updates.  If I click on My Work->My Tasks, I can see the progress.  What am I doing wrong?

The updates will not be reflected in PWA, until you open and publish the project.

  • Thanks Prasanna! That worked.

I am new to using project server.  I've been asked to investigate whether project server can be used to replace the current timesheet system.  Can you answer the following:

    • When I update the percentage complete (e.g. 50% for an 8hr task=4hrs), will this automatically be reflected on the corresponding timesheet or do you have to manually make that update?  OR if you go in and update timesheet with actuals for a task, will it assign a percentage complete accordingly? I wouldn't want the team members to have to make updates in multiple places so it would be great if they can make a single update in one place (either the task itself or within the timesheet) and it be updated in the other.

You missed a step on the Approval Center page.  You need to select the the checkbox in the first column to the left of your Status Update and then you need to click the Accept button.  Once you do this, Project Server 2010 will push the update information into the Microsoft Project 2010 file.  Before you do the approval, however, make sure you have the project CLOSED, as the system cannot update it while the project is checked out.  After you open the project, you will see the progress and then you will need to save and publish the latest changes to the enterprise project.  Hope this helps.

  • Dale, I'm using Microsoft Project 2007.  Is that option in there?  I've been trying to create a process document as I go but for some reason I can't figure out how I updated the task on the PWA anymore.  I can't just click into the percent complete field and edit.  If I choose edit, that opens it up in Project Professional, which I don't want.  Now have to figure out how I did it the first time..lol.  Learning is such fun!!!

Never mind.  I thought you were using Project Server 2010.  Sorry.

  • Hi Dalya,

Go to PWA Project Center then open any one of the project on the browser. Click on the schedule area, on the ribbon, under the Task section you can see the "publish" button. You can use this button to publish the project from PWA itself.
