Office 365 automated backup solutions RRS feed

  • Question

  • Do they exist?  I have yet to find anything, anywhere.  The official answer seems to be manually exporting a .pst file from the users mailbox.  This is extremely time consuming, unacceptable.  Another answer is to use "Recover Deleted Items", or simply the "Deleted Items" folder.  Also unacceptable if the contact list, calendar or something similar gets corrupted.  This is supposed to be an upgrade from BPOS.  But in BPOS we used "Get-XsHostedExchangeMailboxData" with "Export-TransporterBinary" to create backups and the same command with "import" to import them.  Mainly we used these on our Conference Rooms and other resources simply because we didn't have the storage for full mailbox backups.  Regardless, these commands do no exist anymore in 365.   MSGOPS has a Tool: http://www.messageops.com/software/office-365-tools-and-utilities/office-365-exchange-migrator - But this is still using the manual .pst process & costs money.

Is there any solution out there?  Any command I haven't run across?  I've submitted the "request" to have this feature added.  Is there any talk about this feature or command being added back in?  Anyone know anything?!

  • Chris,

Thank you very much for this post.  There is currently no built-in feature for backing up mail to an external source.

If your concern is loss of data due to deletion, you have the litigation hold option to prevent permanent deletion of any mail.

If your concern is loss of data due to corruption, the mailboxes are backed up on a regular schedule and can be rebuilt if you submit a Service Request.

    Have a great day,
