Cloud Based Server RRS feed

  • Hi,

    I am new to the cloud environment, I have a request from a client for the following:

    They have a mix of MAC and Windows PC's

    They are looking for the following:

      Personal Folders for each user on the cloud

      Company shared folder on the cloud

    When logging into any computer, they want the personal and company folders to be available to the users.

    They are using Office 365 if that matters.

    Whats the best way to configure this, and what about the login issue on the MAC and PC's?

  • Hi Brian,

    Office 365 comes with a lot of services including OneDrive and Sharepoint.

    Each user gets OneDrive personal storage with a limited or unlimited storage (1TB for Business Premium and Business Essentials and unlimited (if you have more than 5 users) for the Enterprise packages).

    So each user can use OneDrive as a personal storage space and use the OneDrive application to sync the files to the computer.

    Similarly, you have SharePoint which also has a storage limit (you can see the size chart here or you can open your SharePoint Online admin center and check how much storage is available to you).

    You can create a document structure in SharePoint on a company level and assign different folder permissions.

    Once you create the structure, there is a Sync button which syncs the Sharepoint content back to the users using the same OneDrive application used for OneDrive sync.

    This way users sync twice with the OneDrive app. One is for the OneDrive personal storage and the other is for the SharePoint company shared storage.

    There are no issues since this can be done both on MAC and Windows.

    When the user logs into another system, do they need to configure that session to get their files?  And with OneDrive, do they need to wait for the files to be downloaded to their system?

    Is that the same with Sharepoint?

    Yes, if the user logs into another system they have to install OneDrive again and sync everything.

    On the other hand, if they don't use that system daily, the user can just login to OneDrive or SharePoint via web access and access all files.

    Both for OneDrive and SharePoint an initial download of all files have to be finished. 

    Again, the OneDrive desktop application is used to sync both personal OneDrive and SharePoint.
