Outlook Express / Outlook update annoyance solved RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • You have Outllook installed on your PC, but you use Outlook Express. Have you ever noticed that when the Automatic Updates are ran after the Outlook Spam Filter update is available that Outlook is now the default mail client?

    Not a big deal if your not running Windows Disk Protection, but if you are, it requires that you set OE as the default mail reader and allow WDP to save the changes permanently.

    Well I've come up with a simple fix

    Create these 2 files;

    mailfix.bat with the following contents:

    regedit /s D:\Files\Batch\mailfix.reg

    mailfix.reg with the following contents:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail]
    @="Outlook Express"

    Now add mailfix.bat to the "Custom Updates" field in "Scheduled Software Updates" in SteadyState
