OST is in use and could not be accessed. RRS feed

  • Dear all,

    Two users encounter the following error message when using Outlook 2003 to connect to Exchange 2003:

    "The file C:\outlook.ost is in use and could not be accessed.

    Close any application that is using this file, and then try again. "

    Before, the users is using Cached Mode. As I suspect the OST file had problem and I have tried rename it and let outlook generate the OST file again. The problem is still exists.

    So, I set to run in Online mode.

    But this problem is still exists.

    What can I do?

  • Hi

    Close the outlook and look for whether the outlook.exe is running in task manager. If it is running kill the service or the end the process and try to rename the ost file.

    If still a problem. Reconfigure the outlook profile, and re add the pst files.
