Unable to unlock mkv file RRS feed

  • Question

    • I recently have been downloading films found in parts in mkv format. I use hj splitter to join these parts to get full movie. Before joining I can rename or move these files but after these are joined I cannot move or edit because the file is locked in explorer.exe. I have so far been able to delete by using command prompt or a software named Lockhunter x64 bit as  have x64 bit windows 7. Even lockhunter cannot unlock it. Though it says unlocked but recheck shows to be locked. I have been looking for a number of threads but this seems to be a very big issue. Nothing has worked for me completely to unlock the file, so I want to know if there is somebody who might help.

           thanks in advance

  • Hi Ranjan,

This sounds like it is a problem with HJ Splitter and not Windows. Try a program called mkvmerge it has worked for me in the past.

Or if you really don't want to try a differant tool use Microsofts Process Explorer to examine what is running, I suggest keeping an eye on the svchost.exe files as they have multiple processes running in them.

    Hope this helps

  • thanks for reply but it seems hjsplit is not a problem because the same tool has nothing to do with locking the file as I have seen in my friend's pc. I hope for a better solution, please. Suggest me any application that can be used for unlocking such files in x64 bit platform. Waiting for reply
