How to add an item to the start menu right click context menu. RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • In previous versions of windows (XP/Vista) we have been able to add a right click item to the start menu by using the following registry key:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\MyApp]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\MyApp\command]
    @="MyApp.exe"
However in Windows 7 this no longer works.

Is there another way to add this kind of behaviour in windows 7?

  • Hi Sirikan,

Here are some instructions to add the right-click context menu:

    Creating Context Menu Handlers

Customize the Right Click Menu in Windows 7

  • Hi Linda,
Thanks for getting back to me. The links you linked above cover heaps of information except for the one context menu I am trying to get to unfortunatly.

I am talking about the menu that appears when you right click on the start menu button itself.

  • Hi Sirikan,

Based on my test, it seems the Start orb button's context menu cannot be customized.
