SCCM 2012 R2 to SCCM 1802 - Agent Upgrade methods for roaming users RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have upgraded from SCCM 2012 R2 sp1 to SCCM CB 1802 and implemented CMG for roaming users. We are able to upgrade all the agent except roaming users, some of the roaming users not come to office network through LAN / VPN. Is it mandatory to ask them to come to office network for upgrade the agent or any other options are available from the CMG?

    Regards,

    Mani

  • There's not really anything else that can be done. A client upgrade requires connectivity. The 2012 R2 agent has no ability to communicate to your site using CMG so barring any magic (and assuming that you don't have traditional IBCM set up), there's no way to manage it without a connection.

You could send out the upgrade via e-mail or some other out-of band channel but that assumes that the users on those systems have local admin permissions so that they can run the upgrade and Azure AD Register their systems or enroll for a machine certificate.
