  • i am writing a book and need consecutive page numbering from beginning to end.  Page numbering reverted to 1 at the 101st page. 

    Unable to find clues in "show formatting" 

    Please help

  • That could occur if you started a new Section and the page numbering in the Section was marked to restart and not to continue from previous. If you don't see a Section Break in your document, turn on the Show Hidden Characters toggle located on the Home tab. It looks like this:

    If you are using Tracked Changes, you could also have accidentally changed something and are just not seeing it because of your Tracked Changes settings. Go to the Review tab and check that out.

    Finally, since your question is really a product use question and this is a Technical Forum meant for Developers and IT Pros you would be better served in the future if you posted at this consumer site that specializes in Word for the PC, there is a separate forum available if you are using a Mac.

  • Click on the page where the page number restarts. On the Insert tab, click Page Number, and then click Format Page Numbers. In the Page Number Format dialog box, select "Continue from previous section" and click OK.
