Power Query Browser (Internet Explorer) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have an issue and after searching the web for a long time without getting to find an answer I decided to ask the experts.

I try to crawl a website via power query but I get the message that I am using an old internet explorer version (7). My first try was to just change my browser but it seems that is impossible. Therefore I tried to update my Internet explorer. The funny part is, that my Internet explorer already was the newest version (11).

My question now is, why the query uses an old browser instead of my default internet explorer and how I can update the query browser?

    Best wishes,

    Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

This is a known behavior of the web browser running embedded inside another application, it will default to IE7 compatibility mode. Please see this link for more information:

All replies

  • That sounds a bit illogical/buggy.

    1) Are you running the recent version of Power Query?: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=39379

    2) Try deinstalling the Power Query add-in and reinstalling it

If this all fails, pls post your specs:

    Excel-version and OS

  • Hi Andreas. The message you're getting is incorrect (i.e. we don't use IE7 for "From Web"). However, something is obviously causing the site to conclude that we are. Can you share the URL of the site you're attempting to crawl?

    Thanks,

    Ehren
