Response Group - what is the SIP field?

Question
-
I am creating a Response Group and wondering what the SIP field is. Can this be any random email address that I create in AD, or does it actually matter?

The sip address is not an email address and does not need a cooresponding mailbox. But to answer your question, it can be anything in the format "sip:ResponseGroupName@sipdomain.com". Make it somewhat descriptive of what the response group will do. The sipdomain.com must be a supported sip domain in your Lync environment.

It defines the SIP URI associated with the group, but most times it is not known or utilized by end-users as the Telephone Number is typically what is used to 'call' a response group. It just needs to be a unique string, like supportgroup@contoso.com fro example.

Thanks.
What exactly is this field used for? Does it have to do with how Lync routes calls, like it needs to have a SIP address to map numbers to or something?

Ok that makes sense. I didn't even think about being able to call the response group with the sip address.
Thanks both of you.
