I would like the default time expression to be 24 hour RRS feed

  • Question

  • PowerBI is set to Direct Connect to SQL Server. The TimeStamp column currently returns 2017-11-01 13:47:00.000 (for example).

    I would like the time to remain in 24 hour format for clarity.

    Whenever I add columns using the Date/Time functions, PowerBI seems to always insist on finally displaying the time in the tables and visualizations as 12 hour.

    Thank you, Rod.

  • I believe that you'll have to convert the datetime value to text, in order to get a 24 hour display e.g. add a new step like:

    ConvertedTime = Table.TransformColumns(<PreviousStepName>, {"DateTime", each DateTime.ToText(_, "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss")})
    Substitute "DateTime" with the actual name of your date & time column.

    It is better though, to do the display formatting at the report level, where you don't have to convert to text.
