Very slow reboot and resume from hibernate for Windows 7 after installing SP1 RRS feed

Answers

  • I can see from the Hibernation trace the the Norton Ghost driver (cbfs64.sys) hangs. Is this the latest Ghost version? Try to stop/Remove it and look if it is better.

Ghost also slows done the boot in combination with Norton 360. I can see that the prefetcher is not working fine. Trry to speed up the boot with the help of my guide [1]. This trains the advanced prefetcher in Windows 7. This increase the boot performance a lot.

  • Thanks Vegan. I only installed SP1 and I did not update any driver or BIOS. There was no instruction while installing SP1 to update these.

If I have to do this step, how do I find which drivers and BIOS i have to install.

  • Thanks Andre.

Now, I have uploaded 1 more file; hope this helps to analyze

    http://cid-4d429a305470c7cc.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/summary%5E_boot.xml

Also, the earlier uploaded two files are ETL files only but they are zipped due to size limitation. If you extract these, you will get ETL files only. skydrive does not allow more than 50MB file size to upload. Again, the link to these files are

  • I think your advice is valuable. But, i am extremely tired by rebooting and doing the msconfig step again and again to isolate the problem. Is the a shorter way of doing the same please.

    Appreciate all your suggestions.

  • no, the other 2 files are the prefetcher files, not the ETL file. Zip them with 7z.

The XML tells me your Windows boots in 94s to the desktop and 189 seconds to boot completely.

But I need the ETLs to see more.

  • Oh! how to get the ETL files. Could you please guide?

  • In the same folder where you get the CAB you see the larger ETL files. Zip them both into 50MB parts with 7zip.

  • Thank you. It worked. Now, boot-up time and resume-from-hibernation has both improved significantly. Also, i changed the prefetcher setting in registry from '3' to '2'. I hope there will be no problem due to this setting change.
