Setup SharePoint 2007 Alert Me on Specified Users

Question
-
We are about to use SharePoint 2007 as document repository. Idea is this:
1. A site with Document Library
2. Sub folders on Document Library
3. Different User Access per sub folder (assigned by IT)
4. A 3rd party program will copy file on specified sub folder
5. Email notification to assigned user that there are files dump on the specified sub folder.
Question is, how can I setup Alert Me feature on specific users? As I have tested, I can set Alert Me on to my own account. Can I setup on other users?
Also, can I set Alert me on specific user with Read Only access?Friday, January 29, 2010 9:19 AM

If you have Site Owner rights to a site - you can assign an alert to go to other people at the time the alert is created.
An issue with your usecase is that you can not assign permissions to folders in a doc library.
I hope this helps and answers your question-

Hi mpMS,
1) If you have Site Owner rights to a site, you can assign an alert to other people with any kind of permission when the alert is created.
a) Go to where your folder is
b) Click the “Alert Me” in the drop down list of the folder
c) Input the users you want to send alerts to in “Send Alerts To” section
d) Do the proper settings in other sections
e) Click “OK”
2) About the “An issue with your use case is that you cannot assign permissions to folders in a doc library” Jeff DeVerter mentioned, I don’t agree with that. You can manage the permissions of folders according to “Manage Permissions” in the drop down list of the folder if you have proper right to this folder.
Hope it is helpful!

Hi All
Blue, is correct one of the major improvements with WSS3 was item level permissions, this is specifically relevant with WF and Event Receivers... As Blue has said just use the drop down context menu on the folder and ChooseMmanage permissions > Edit Permissions > Click OK on the pop up Dialog "You are about to create Unique permissions" > Remove the Users and Groups that doi not require access and Add the Users and Groups that require Access. then Assign the appropriate userr rights........
