Power Query error - Expression.Error: The evaluation terminated unexpectedly. Details: at... RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have installed the Power Query x64 add-on 1.5.3296.1161 in our Remote App environment for our Office 2013 x64.  The Remote App is published and previously was working fine with the preview version of Data Explorer.

Since upgrading to Power Query users now get the error:

Expression.Error: The evaluation terminated unexpectedly. Details:    at...

when they are connecting to a data source.  I have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled this application but I'm still getting the error above.

Any ideas on why this is occurring?

    Thanks

UPDATE:  When the user logs on locally to the RD server it works fine.  Appears to be a problem only through Server 2012 Remote App.

  • Hi again,

Thanks for providing more details. We have identified the root cause and will include a fix in a future update.

In the meantime, the workaround would be to log directly into the machine as you suggested in your updated note.

** Funny looking for a solution after struggling yesterday and came across your question  :)

  • Yeah I looked at that post yesterday and its not elevation of privileges for the process that seems to be the problem.  I've being running ProcMon to catch any exceptions or access denied errors while working through the Power Query app and nothing seems to be appearing.

    Very strange.

  • Hi BevanSNZ,

Could you please let us know which data source(s) are causing this error? Is it any data source within Power Query or specific ones?

    Thanks,
    M.

  • Hey Miguel

any data source. I initially was using HDInsight, but can repeat the problem with Sql or csv data sources.

  • Thanks Miguel

Any chance I can get access to the latest version? Or an ETA on the release date?

  • Hi BevanSNZ,

The latest Power Query update should have fixed this issue. Just click the "Update" button in the PQ ribbon tab and follow the setup instructions to get the latest bits.

    Thanks,
    M.
