Data Migration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Trying to understand why Microsoft(SharePoint) is not trying to separate enterprise data from application data. We often take pain of migrating enterprise data from one version of SharePoint to another. SharePoint is not adding any value by moving enterprise documents 'as is' to another version. Hope SharePoint team should understand this concern and make some architectural changes in the approach.

  • This might be an issue with either your migration tool or your migration process.

Data within SharePoint tends to be either lists or libraries.  The distinction between enterprise and application is one that I'm guessing you're making?  Can you give us an example?

  • I think, SharePoint team should think in a way to isolate the enterprise data and make it plugable, hence we just take care of migrating the application and plug the enterprise data.
