Windows 7 x64 installer is broken RRS feed

  • i can't install any program, windows installer was wrong (xp) , i stop the windows installer service, remove HKEY_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\Services\msiserver and run SFC/ scannow from the prompt. What can I do to have INSTALLEr back to windows 7 x64? From dvd ? what can i do ? Format c:?

  • There a various things you can try. First of all, check the Image path in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer. The value for Image path should be C:\Windows\System32\Msiexec.exe /V. If it's not, change the value.

    If this is not working, you should unregister the Windows Installer. Therefore type msiexec /unregister in a command prompt. Afterwards restart your PC. After the restart type msiexec /regserver in a command prompt. Afterwards you can run sfc /scannow another time.
