RichCopy Error message - faulting module ntdll.dll RRS feed

  • Question

  • Has anybody come across the following error from RichCopy?

Faulting application RichCopy.exe, version 4.0.217.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.4455, fault address 0x000417e7.

I'm trying to copy files from one drive to another, and RichCopy starts and runs for about 15min but it crashes and closes out.  I found this error message in the logs.  From what I've read online, I have possibly a damaged .dll file or virus.  How do I go about working around this issue and proceed to copying the drive?

  • The backups were currently taking place on that drive, therefore RichCopy wasn't able to access the data.

  • Hi,

The report said the faulting module is Ntdll.dll. In fact, this Ntdll.dll is a subsystem used for providing APIs for User Mode apps. If the faulting module is it, in most of the cases, it is caused by the other 3rd party applications, Please boot the computer in Safe Mode to check it again.
