Windows 7 Locking up after a night of running RRS feed

  • Question

  • So, I'm having a bit of an issue, I have my PC set to never sleep since I have others on my network that may need my things. Now, the problem is, every time I wake, and I go to wake the PC, you know, move the mouse or the keyboard to bring my monitor to life. The OS is sitting there locked up, I can't access anything, the mouse is unresponsive, it still moves, but nothing happens, can't access the task manager, anything.

I originally had this problem when it was shutting off my HDD's, I switched that option off, and it stopped doing it. I'm not sure what else to do though, I switched off "hybrid sleep" Since I have no clue what it is, to see if that's possibly the problem. If anyone has any ideas what could be causing this, or has the same issue, please feel free to help me out :).

Very sorry for the lack of "professionalism" it's been 7 years since I've actually done real A+ work, the terminology escapes me at this point.

  • Has anyone else noticed this issue? I can't figure out what causes it, and it's a real annoyance.

  • I had an issue with Windows 7 32&64 bit versions default sleep settings but they went away when I manually turned everything off.  I had a gateway laptop, however, that would do this and found that the sleep settings in the BIOS advanced power management settings was causing problems.  I have also run into certain ATI video drivers that change the sleep settings in its video config file that overided windows settings and I would have to toggle the video sleep mode on and off again to get it from freezing.  Perhaps you can check those areas of your PC?

  • I have a brand new Gateway laptop and after I set the display to turn off after 30 minutes, the laptop would lock up when I tried to wake it.  I read a post in the thread referenced above about unchecking the "Auto-hide the Task Bar" option.  I did this and I no longer have the problem.   The laptop wakes up every time now.
