client access role failing RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have exchange 2010 setup. I am trying to install in our production enviroment. I have exchange 2003 , exchange 2007 and new exchange 2010. This is not my first time installed exchange 2010. I had it fail earlier but wiped it out and now loading back. No matter what i try i can not get it completed.  Any ideas ? I have even used adsi edit and looked in there but could not find anything . I did find our exchange 2007 box listed - lou-exchange2007. I have been dealing with this for four days now. Almost to point of calling microsoft . Which i would hate to hear the price on this one .

I can install all roles except client access role which i need.

    I keep getting error

  • Hi,

The problem probably caused by Stale entries of the Old Exchange 2010 mailbox database in the Adsiedit .

Check Adsiedit again and remove the Stale entries of the Old Exchange 2010 mailbox database in the Adsiedit if it has.

Plus, make sure your forest functional level suitble for Exchange 2010.

  • Hi,

I also feel there is some stale entries for exchange mailbox database

check if you have any mailbox database in the Database container for the exchange 2010 server

If possible can you also share the exchange setup logs

    Thanks

    John

  • I did not see anything in adsi edit. i have search there and found just another name . It is our 2007 box. I am not sure if it would put exchange 2007 there or not. It might have been where the copy tried to put exchange 2010 before. One thing i did notice our other 2007 box was not listed in adsi or exchange 2003. That is what makes it odd. The one exchange 2007 that is listed there is 2007 sp3 box. I have some users on that box and did not  want to delete it unless that is known to be 2010 box. i am not sure how to tell for sure.

  • The only thing i have in adsi edit is one listed with

    msExchVersion

    44220983382016

    is that exchange 2010 ?

I do have 1 exchange 2003 , exchange 2007 which does not show in adsi , exchange 2007 sp3 , and the new box i am building which is not listed. I do not think exchange 2007 should be listed in adsi but unsure.  I do not know a way to verify other than by exchange version number if it is 2010. can someone tell me what version of exchagne that is.

Did you check for stale database in ADSIEdit as Rowen-Xu suggested?

I also believe you have them so please look for them in CN=Services,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=YOUR ORG,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIB*),CN=Databases and if you find any, delete them.

  • Hi,

have you installed hotfixes before installating CAS

    1. KB979099;KB979744;983440;977020 & KB982867

    2. Ad Forest must be running in windows 2003 native mode

    3. setup /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions

    4. setup /PrepareAD

Micosoft recommands to install CAS role before other roles.
