Win2K8 OS Discovery Script and Win32_PowerPlan RRS feed

    Hi,
    With SCOM 2007 R2 , on some of Win2K8 R2 computers, I got this event :
    Event ID 4001 Health Service Script
    "Microsoft.Windows.Server.2008.Discovery.Probe.vbs : The class name 'Win32_PowerPlan where IsActive=true' did not return any valid instances. Please check to see if this is a valid WMI class name.. This program is blocked by group policy. "

    So, the discovery of the Operationg System is not completed.
    I have other win2k8r2 computers into the same OU with the same GPOs applied and without any problem (OS is discovered).

    When I launch the script manually and get the same result.
    In Wbemtest, when I launch the query "select * from win32_powerplan" ,  I get the error "0x800704ec - This program is blocked by group policy" but this is the same result on a good server.

    Have you ever seen this symptom ? Is it a good idea to disable a portion of the script in reference to PowerPlan (for testing purpose) and which one exaclty ?

    Hi Alain,

    By "known issue" I meant that team who developed this MP is aware of this issue and that this issue is critical.

    It is related to Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Operating System MP.

    The plans about addressing this issue are not finalized yet. I will provide more information as soon as possible.

    By chance on the servers that is does not return are they virtual and the ones that it work on physical?

    Hi Paul,

    Unfortunatly, I did not find at this time a commun denominator. One of them is my sql reporting server used by SCOM that is a virtual machine. Others are physical cluster nodes. By exemple, two nodes of a 4 node cluster have this symptom.

    Hi Alain,

    Yes, this is a known issue. Unfortunately there is no workaround right now besides disabling this discovery and creating own discovery based on this script with removed (or handled properly) PowerPlan-related code.

    Let me find out about plans to address this issue.

    For testing only, I put in remark those lines that refer to Powerplan on my Reporting Server and it is better. The script passed and now the agent is discovered.
    However, I suspect that each time the HealthService  service is restarted, the file is replaced by an original copy. Right ??

    Alain, that is correct. Upon restarting HealthService service it will redownload the original version.

    I do not find any reference about this "known issue".
    Is it related to SCOM or to the OS (WMI portion) ?

    Do you have more information on this ?

    Thanks for the info Zaki.
    Just to say that after further testing, we have a GPO setting that activates the Power Plan in High performance mode. Without any GPO the script runs without problem. The error on the script (event id 4001) is seen on all Win2K8 R2 servers but only some of them are not discovered correctly.

    I'll be waiting for this new MP version.
