Spool Service stops and starts ever evening at 2320 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since Patch Tuesday this week, every night the Spool service stops and restarts (only once) at 2320. I cant find any other tasks that happen just before. Printing is normal and the computer is idle, but not sleep or hibernated. There is little in the logs.

No faulting application name. Code is 0xC0000005 Process id 0xee8 path is c:\Windows\System32\spoolsrv.exe. It restarts straight away and never fails again until the same time next evening. No changes to printers and noting is in use.

I have just seen KB3024777 and will apply that, reading it increses root cert requests which might affect RPC and hence spooler ?

  • I have the same problem but the only one solution was apply a system restoration point before windows update installation (10/12/2014). After apply system restoration point,  I open the windows update and the KB3024777 dont appear between updates pending to install.

That was my solution for the problem.

Thanks, yes I think KB3024777 was the issue. You wont see it now because MS have pulled it.

    Thanks for the comment

  • Seems KB3024777 wasn't this issue causing Spool Service to stop and start nightly at 2340GMT. It seems it is connected with the updates from the 12th of December from other post above. Does any one know which to remove.....rather than uninstall them all ?
