Disadvantages of not using SSL Certificate RRS feed

    Hi,

    I'm not a pro in certificates. May I ask what are the disadvantages of not using SSL cert for the portal? Maybe it's a stupid question since I couldn't find any articles with someone not using it for SM. 

    I did bump into this, http://www.sslshopper.com/why-ssl-the-purpose-of-using-ssl-certificates.html

    Related to SM? To sum it up, its to provide security through encryption and authentication.

    Appreciate any help.

    James it is not recommended to host your portal w/o SSL certificate as confirmed by the article you referred to. If you have any sensitive information going across the wire then you should stick with SSL, I would use it regardless of the information being sent over the wire just to be safe. Its possible to disclose the sensitive/personal information to malicious processes and users as it travels over the wire. Potentially whatever you are sending in unencrypted form (w/o SSL) can also be tampered with by malicious users.
