No sound from MessageBeep() RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since the Beep() command is no longer supported on 64-bit windows, I changed my software (C++) to use the MessageBeep() instead. Worked fine until lately. Probably after running one of those "cleaners". Also the restart-points were corrupted, so I couldn't go back.

I still get the sound when doing log off/on etc. Also Windows Media Player sounds great. I tried to re-install the sound driver, tried it in a different account, checked the registry (as much as I can visually do) - nothing! On my wife's computer (same hardware HP-Pavilion dv6-1253cl, same windows, same update level) MessageBeep() beeps fine.

Any idea where to check, where to change or where to compare between the 2 computers?
