Impact of running ConfigMgr 2012 and 2007 in parallel for extended period RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are close to performing a migration from ConfigMgr 2007 to ConfigMgr 2012.  At the same time we intend to update our client OS from XP to Windows 7 SP1.  The ConfigMgr 2012 hierarchy will be built out in parallel to the 2007 infrastructure and configured as required.  Can anyone tell me what the risks are of running 2007 and 2012 in parallel for a period of time (eg weeks/months)?  The idea would be to start rolling out Windows 7 clients (seperate OU) and do a pilot test of applications, software updates etc.  Once everyone is happy with the pilot, then start the migration of the remaining XP machines to Windows 7 and convert over to the 2012 infrastructure completely.  Grateful for any thoughts on the above or whether anyone has experienced any show stoppers with running 2007 and 2012 together for longer than average.
