Brand new laptop programs not responding RRS feed

  • Hi everyone,

I have seen this topic covered on here before but nothing has worked.  I have spent about 5 days trying to solve my issue with no success.

I have a 3 week old Acer Aspire 1551 with 4 GB of ram.  I have removed all of the preinstalled anti-virus software, run virus checks, did chkdsk, checked the memory, did the special boot load start up, and the list goes on and on.  When the issue happens the program (it has happened to IE 8, Mozilla, MSconfig, etc) freezes for about 10-60 seconds, with 30 seconds being the average.  If you check the resource monitor the disk section shows utilization at 100% until the program unfreezes.  I have also gone back to earlier restore points with no luck.  The only program I have installed on the computer is Norton, and I did that after the issue had been happening for days in hopes that Mcafee was the issue.  I dont know what else to do!?  I called Acer and they told me to end program and restart it.  That was their best attempt to help me.  I am ready to throw away the computer at this point as it freezes every 3-5 minutes.  Hopefully someone has come up with the solution!!!  Thank you.

  • Some users say it was fixed by disabling the Desktop Window Manager service and go back to Classic Windows Theme

  • Hi,

So far this is working for the last ten minutes, which is 5 minutes longer than usual.  Given the number of people having this issue do you know if Microsoft is working on a fix?  I liked the Windows 7 transparency options and the modern options.  Is there a way to contact Microsoft tech support wiithout paying?

  • Try this:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

and see if a 3rd party tool may cause the issue. I don't have the issue here, so there must be something special on your PC.

  • Still happened.  What does that tell us?  Is it a bad hard drive?  All the people that have this issue cant have bad hard drives can they?  Acer customer service is clueless.
