Can't delete "Actual Start" date for a Heading - Project 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I"m having some issues with a heading in my schedule.  I did not make this schedule from scratch.  It is a copy of a default schedule being used for all related schedules.  There is an "Actual Start" date of 3/5/2013 which the program will not let me change.  If I set the Heading to Auto schedule, it overrides my start date with this actual date.  This date is found no where on my schedule (it's not coming from any other listed tasks).  How do I get rid of this Actual start date?

  • I guess, your schedule carried over some Actuals information over when copied from the other schedules. Insert a column called "Actual Start" and then delete the data in the column. This should fix your problem.

A more comprehensive fix is to save the project MPP files as an MPT (template), to get rid of ALL Actual values, and recreate it as a new MPP file.

  • I can't delete the date from the column.  It's ghosted out so it can't be changed.  I have 2 headings with this issue both have the same date 3/5/2013.

  • I have few questions for you

    1) Are you doing this in a "Project Server" enviromnet or just "project"?

    2) Am I correct in Assuming that when you say heading, you mean a task/Summary TAsk.

Try my second solution. Click on File >> Save As and select "MPT" file

And check the boxes to remove all actual values when prompted.

Once done, reopen the template and create a new file based on that MPT.

  • I wanted to add (Just had to figure this out for my coworkers project) that if you go into Project information, make sure it's selected to "Schedule from Start".  My coworker had it "Schedule from Finish".
