Authentication of Excel reports in project server 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Please consider below scenario and advise me what I have missed or may require changes

I have configured Excel Services Account in my project server farm

    Excel reports are browsed fine

Once Refresh All data is clicked end in an error :

We couldn’t load the Data Model. This may be because the Data Model in this workbook is damaged.

Access was denied by the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh:  xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I have already given read permission on the application to the excel services account.

What could be the issue and how can I resolve this?

  • Hi Syed,

Are you using Power Pivot? If yes then you can trying repairing Office but before doing it please ensure that you have the installables and the license key to avoid any worse case scenario.

In case you are using SQL 2014, you can refer the article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2967900

  • Your excel service and/or your secure state is not setup properly. When you open Excel report and the data is seen, then you are just using cached data. The refresh button is going to the server and it is failed for one of many reasons

    1) File is not in trusted area

    2) THe secure store is not setup.

    3) the authentication SSID is not correct.  It is case sensitive

    4) plus many other reasons.  Start from start and reconfigure Excel and Secure Store.

    Cheers!
