Lync phone devices for external access

Question
-
Ηι,
Do you know any Lync phone devices (standalone-not connected to a pc or media gateway), that could connect through Edge server? The case is that a customer has it's HQ's and since it is a shipping company, they want every ship to have a standalone device and connect through edge to the corporate Lync server. Do you know any devices that can connect through sip and not PIN?
Thanks in advance,
Argi

You can use Snom Phone with user authentication.
http://www.snom.com/de/produkte/unified-communications/microsoft-lync-qualified-products/
But you can configure also the aries phones in the Office and than send this phones to the ships and connect them to the internet.

Many of the existing standard SIP phones from Polycom now have direct Lync integration, but are currently only supported for internal usage: http://blog.schertz.name/2011/12/lync-integration-with-polycom-sip-phones
The next release will provide for external access (Edge Registration). At this point then there will be over 10 devices you can choose from to address your scenario without any requirement to tether the device for initial authentication.

I would like to say that in order for SNOM 300 devices to work, someone must fill the NTP server record and have the _sipinternaltls._tcp.mydomain.com SRV record to the DNS server.
I wanted to note this because it took me almost two weeks time to figure this out, since the technician that sold us the devices didn't know how to configure this.

I was aware of the second choice, but I was trying to avoid this since if someone logs out from the phone or reset to factory defaults the phone needs to be transferred to the company to be configured again.
I saw that some of the Snom Phones like 370 and 821 have a web console for configuring but haven't used them so I would like to be sure that they would work from the internet by providing the sip address of the user. So, I guess that these phones are connected as external users through Edge server, right?
Thanks

Most of the Lync Phone Edition devices are supported for external provisioning and access (minus the Common Area Phone models). For example you can use the Polycom CX700, CX600, or CX3000 externally: http://blog.schertz.name/2010/12/externally-provisioning-lync-phone-edition-3

Hi,
Your solution is according to the article given, the second choice that Holger provided, meening configuring the device through a computer. This meens that either the configuration is configured at HQ's or that a pc is available at the ship. I am already aware of that solution but as I already said this option has the disadvantage that someone might log off from the device or reset it, so the configuration should take place again and we would like to avoid this.
This is why I am looking for devices that are connected through edge by providing the sip account, so that if someone logs off or reset the device, logging in would be a lot easier and also we would like to avoid the computer since it is not know to me just yet whether if a computer at the ship will be available.

Finally, I communicated with a reseller for SNOM devices and got a snom 300 device. It looks pretty ok and can be user for external usage too. Reach interface with many options. Seems like this device will work for me since the price is not high.
Thanks to all
