Hyper-V 2008R2 Host - cannot ping guest RRS feed

  • The first thing I would do is to check the firewall configuration in your guest operating system, and make sure that it allows ICMP.  Here is a great article that steps you through how to do this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749323(WS.10).aspx

  • I just want to add, that windows server 2008/2008 R2 denies access by default. Which means that even pinging would be blocked by the firewall. As Ben mention, make sure that ICMP is allowed. You can either do this manually by altering the rules in windows firewall, or simply share a folder in windows, that would enable these protocals.
