DPM backup jobs SQL RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a MS DPM 2012 R2 backup job running for my SQL servers.

It gives me the option to pick which dB I want to back up.  The backup job is configured to run @ a certain date/time.

Now I want to create a different backup job for the same dBs, but for long term storage backups, but when I go in and

try to pick the databases it does not give me that option.

Is it true you cannot run two different backups in parallel because another job is configured.

I want to create two backup jobs that do 2 different things.

Is this not an option in DPM?

  • Hi,

As you have figurered out. You cannot have the same datasource(for example an SQL-DB) in two Protection Groups.

However, you are able to configure short term storage on disk and long-term on tape(or Online Protection to Azure) in the same protection group. This configuration is done in the Protection Group-wizard on the page "Select data protection method", the same page were you name your Protection Group.

If you want to have two different retention times on disk, you will have to configure a secondary DPM-server that backs up your data from the primary one: Back up DPM using a secondary server.

    Kind Regards
