Transfering site collection from Sharepoint 2003 to Sharepoint 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have got below error when I try to restore one site collection from sharepoint 2003 to sharepoint 2007.

"Your backup is from a different version of Windows SharePoint Services and cannot be restored to a server running the current version. The backup file should be restored to a server with version ‘′ or later"

  • Typically, when you restore backup files in SharePoint, you need to restore them into an environment that's very similar to the original environment.  This means that the SharePoint platform version, service pack level, and infrastructure update level must be the same on both systems.  Your restore job failed because it was trying to restore an SPS 2003 file into MOSS 2007.

Try using  "ststadm -o export" and "stsadm -o import" commands to export your site collection from SPS 2003 and import it into MOSS 2007.  At the command prompt, type in "stsadm -help export" and "stsadm -help import" to get details on syntax and proper usage.

For additonal migration details, see the MOSS 2007 Upgrade portal:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/sharepointserver/bb421259.aspx
