DeviceClass question

    Question

  • Hello,

we got a GPO to allow non-administrators to install Device Drivers (GPO - Computer Settings - Administrative Templates - System/Driver Installation - Allow non-administrators to install device drivers)

currently in the GPO device classes {4d36e979-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} and {4658ee7e-f050-11d1-b6bd-00c04fa372a7} are allowed, see https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff553426(v=vs.85).aspx )

this GPO works for some printers (example HP M602dn), for others, non admin users still aren't allowed to install drivers (example HP X476dw). My assumption is that the cause is the devices not working are MFP devices (beside printing they scan and copy and so on) which have a different device class?

Anyone happens to have had such an issue too and knows a solution (deviceclass?)?

    Thanks

    Florian

  • as it's network printers, they don't show up in device manager, however, I think I might have found the culprit in the ini files of the driver. part of the driver setup seems to be to install a usb hub driver (DeviceClass {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000}) for an usb port integrated in the printer, and that isn't allowed in the gpo

Maybe... On a computer where the device is installed, go to device
manager, open the device properties and grab its class guid from there.

    HTH...
