Move Exchange 2010 to new hardware

Question
-
Dear All,
We have an Exchange 2010 in a physical machine and we would like to move it to a virtual enviroment.
I have installed the OS and the Exchange 2010 with the same SP1 and all the rollups (to the virtual machine) that the psysical exchange has installed. So the new exchange physical and virtual have the same version of Exchange.
What steps I must follow in order to move the exchange to the new machine?
PS
It is a typical installation of Exchange 2010.

Hi,
First stat Moving the users to the new server.
Once that completes start Create replicas of the public folders on the new server
You can replicate the PF by using this command
.\MoveAllReplicas.ps1 -Server Server01 -NewServer Server02

Hi,
I thing it is better to Run again the Replication process as you said you have stopped in between. all the Public folders are not replicated.
yes if you run the Circular logging it won't take that much disk space

Hi
Are you wanting to keep the same server name? You can introduce a new exchange server and then move mailboxes across from the one to the other one. Here are some articles for you to reference:

Hello,
Thank you for your quick response, the same name is not neccessary to keep it, i think, i ma not sure.
the only that i imagine is that i must go one by one user to reconfigure their mail clients to connect to the new server, right?Friday, April 12, 2013 8:43 AM -
Hi
If you are using SSL Certificates you will need to update them with the new server name.
I would create a CAS Array as well. SP1 is no longer supported so you should look at updating your exchange servers..
Are you going to be running a DAG at all?
Mailbox moves are quite simple, time consuming if you have lots of mailboxes but you can script those to be moved.
On your virtual server, have you catered for enough resources, memory, space, etc.?

This all depends on what you have configured before.
Database-wise you can create a Database Availability Group and add copies of your databases to the new server, allow for some replication time and then move the active databases to the new server. You can then safely remove the database copies from the old server have have all the databases running on your new virtual server.
You can then start moving DNS names from the old server to the new one.
Make sure you back up any certificates on the old server if you need to use them on the new one.
There might be some issues if you have configured your clients to use the local name, but you should be able to work around those problem.

Hi,
I have created certificates based on the new exchange name. Services IP.WS.
I will not use DAG, i want just to move th exchange to new machine.
The sizing has been done based on current needs.
First i must start the replication of PFs?Friday, April 12, 2013 10:11 AM -

Hi,
One month ago i started to move the public folder, but i stoppped this task, because I noticed that during moving the disk of where the Pfolders stored (old server) was loaded with too many files, logs file. I stopped because the available disk space tended to near 2GB, so immediately i shud town the old server and i took a backup of the PF dtatabase in order to clear the logs. My PF db is near to 84 GB and the available disk space in physical server is near to 87 GB. I have started a clean up of the useless files that are stored in the PF.
Now how the situation is.
1) the new virtual machine has a PF db near to 45 GB, that it was created during my first moving the PF from the physical to virtual. This db must be deleted? or not? the task will start from the last replication that was done?
2) Before i start again the process i must enable the option - Circullar Logging in PF db? in both servers?

Hello,
I powered on the new virtual server in order to start step by step the moving from physical to virtual.
Before i start i noticed that all the emails that were sent from our internal users to outside users were forwarding from the new virtual server. Due to the fact that we use POstfix as mail relay, the emails were stayed in the queue of the new virtual, i changed some settings in the firewall and the messages were sent. I would like until to migrate all the mailboxes and the public foler to the new virtual server, the messages that come from the internal users to outside to be served from the physical machine. How can i fix this? I do not want the new virtual machine to do the routing task either for incoming emails (from outside) or for emails from internal to outside users and of course the local emails, exchanging between users.

if i delete the send connector to virtual machine, all the messages will be forwarded by the current physical machine, right?
So the queue of virtual machine must be empty?Thursday, April 18, 2013 7:42 AM -
yes.
