Got an existing Wsus 3.2 on 2003. Want to move WSUS to 2012. Should I start a new server or try to migrate the old one. RRS feed

    I have been reading material online on this topic. And it seems like some people suggest that under certain criteria it actually makes more sense to just install WSUS new and just move the clients over. Start with a new database.

    My current 3.2 install has 8960 approved updates and 9626 total updates. There are 72 total clients (although probably at least half a dozen need to be deleted). 

    Just wondering what the best approach here is. And where to get the best documentation on it.

    Hi matveevn,

    As far as I'm concerned, I'll appreciate to set up a totally new WSUS server 2012 if I'm not such familiar with the WSUS migration process.

    Add WSUS role on 2012 server, check needed products and classifications, then sync from Microsoft Update.

    On WSUS policy for WSUS clients, I'll redirect the WSUS server to the new one. Here we need to notice that, WSUS 2012 use port 8530, in the WSUS server URL, we need to append the WSUS port, for example, WSUS server: http://newwsusserver:8530.
