Unable to add existing WSS_Content database after the SQL DB is attached to another SQL server ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • People,

I need your help in my SharePoint Server 2007 (WSS 3.0) database migration by using this KB Article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288554(v=office.12).aspx through the Central Admin site (Move content databases between instances of SQL Server by using Central Administration)

I have remove the content DB as per the article steps #3 below:

    • On the Manage Content Database Settings page, in the Remove Content Database section, select the Remove content database check box, and then click OK.

but somehow after I attached it on the new SQL server 2012 successfully, and following Steps#15

    • On the Add Content Database page, type the exact name of the transferred content database, and then click OK.

It failed with the following error message:

The specified SPContentDatabase Name=WSS_Content Parent=SPDatabaseServiceInstance has been upgraded to a newer version of SharePoint. Please upgrade this SharePoint application server before attempting to access this object.

and now I'm left with the broken SharePoint site across the company. Why is that happening ?

There is not SharePoint server upgrade or patch deployed during the DB migration and I have also try with STSADM command but the problem still the same.

    FYI:

The old SQL Server box is 2005 Std SP4 32 bit while the new one is SQL Server 2012 Std. SP1 64 bit.

  • Furthermore, I have enabled the Database compatibility into Level 90 to make sure that there is nothing unsupported from SharePoint.

It doesn't affect the SharePoint CA site, as it only affects the SharePoint default page (port 80).

Windows Event Viewer shows Error ID: 3759
Description: Database 'WSS_Content' on SQL Server instance 'PRODDB03' is not empty and does not match current database schema.

Any clue as to what should I do in order to get the site working and running again ?

  • i am doubted about it, becuase SQL server 2012 or higher version are not supported for MOSS 2007.

    Waqas,

I have enabled the compatibility mode at the database level to emulate SQL version 90, it should work ?

I believe the error is something else related to SharePoint not the database ?

  • Waqas,

So how about if I migrate the SQL Server DB into different server but it is SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 clustered, would this be supported ?

The SQL Server has different IP address and servername, so how am I suppose to change the DB safely ?
