Controlling assignment of drive letters to removable media RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

Is it correct that Windows Vista doesn't contain any new features to control drive letter assignment of removable devices? I know that you can control device installation and driver installation. I want to avoid removable devices getting assigned drive letters being used by network drives and I want to have more predictable drive letters.

Changing a drive letter using Disk Management cannot be done with normal user rights.

I have tested the tool called USBDLM and it seems to be sufficient, however if there is a better way included in Windows Vista I would prefer that. Anyone know of a better way?

    Thanks!
