Excel 2007 / Compatibility Mode / Windows XP random crashes when saving RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've built a financial modelling spreadsheet running under calculation and iteration with a lot of (very basic) VB code for page-handling/error-checking/data-generation etc. The file is around 13mb and - with the exception of 'Too many cell formats' (which I've managed to work round thus far) the model has performed faultlessly in Compatibility mode.

I recently added a few lines of additional VB code and on saving the file Excel crashed with the following messages:-

Exception Information  Code:  Oxc0000005    Flags:  0x00000000    Record:  0x0000000000000000    Address:  0x00000000302be74e

System Information  Windows NT 5.1 Build 2600  CPU Version:  0001067A  CPU Feature Code:  FEBFBFF

    Module1  EXCEL.

Image Base: 0x30000000    Image Size:  0x00000000   Checksum:  0x0118ddfc   Time Stamp:  0x4f7cda6d    Signature:  feef04bd

The following files were included in the error report:  \Temp\231788843.cvr  \Temp\231788875.od

Altering the file name by one character can change a saveable file into a crash with no apparent consistency and any additional VB coding causes an immediate saving crash

Curiously, deleting worksheets does not appear to make a difference

I'm not technical but it strikes me that there may be some sort of 'capacity limit' on VB code or suchlike when running on my platform

I need a remedy and I need it to function in Compatibility mode

All help and guidance gratefully received!

  • Hellow Bill,

place your question into developer forum instead of here.

Use Process Monitor from Sysinternals to reveal the process(es) causing problem.
